Volunteers are awesome!

Did you know that 98% of WVSC is run by volunteers?  There are actually very few paid positions within the club.

Volunteers are the life blood of community football.  They give up their time and use their energy to make our local sports club better, and that’s something to celebrate!

Volunteer Positions

Field Set-Up Crew

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours before the first game of the day

Responsibilities:

Arrive early to set up the field for play, including placing goals, flags, and marking lines if necessary.
Ensure all necessary equipment (corner flags, nets, benches, etc.) is in place.
Assist with any last-minute adjustments before games begin.

Skills/Experience Required:

Punctuality and reliability.
Basic understanding of soccer field layout.
Ability to lift and carry equipment.

End-of-Day Pack Up

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours after the last game of the day

Responsibilities:

Pack up and store all equipment, including goals, flags, and benches.
Ensure the field and surrounding areas are clean and free of trash.
Return all equipment to the storage area and ensure it is stored neatly.

Skills/Experience Required:

Reliability and a sense of responsibility.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
Basic organisational skills.

Coach

Time Commitment: 2-6 hours per week for practices, plus game time on weekends

Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the team during practices and games.
Develop practice plans that improve player skills and teamwork.
Provide positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to players.
Communicate with parents and team members regarding schedules, games, and any team-related matters.
Ensure a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all players.

Skills/Experience Required:

Communication and leadership skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire young players.

Assistant Coach

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week for practices, plus game time on weekends

Responsibilities:

Support the Coach in all aspects of team management.
Assist in planning and leading practices.
Provide additional individual or small-group coaching during practices.
Step in for the Coach if they are unavailable.
Help maintain a positive and inclusive team environment.

Skills/Experience Required:

Basic understanding of soccer rules and strategies.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Enthusiasm for working with children and young players.

Team Manager

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Act as the main point of contact between the team, parents, and the club.
Coordinate game day logistics, including player attendance, uniforms, and transportation.
Manage the team’s schedule and communicate it to all members.
Handle administrative tasks such as collecting fees, managing paperwork, and organising team events.
Ensure all club policies and procedures are followed.

Skills/Experience Required:

Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate with different stakeholders.
Experience in team management or administration is beneficial.

Assistant Team Manager

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Assist the Team Manager in all administrative and logistical tasks.
Help coordinate team communications and ensure all information is up to date.
Step in for the Team Manager if they are unavailable.
Support the organisation of team events and activities.

Skills/Experience Required:

Strong organisational and communication skills.
Willingness to assist in various tasks as needed.
Ability to work collaboratively with the Team Manager.

Game Leaders

Time Commitment: Game time on weekends (varies depending on schedule)

Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage the flow of games, particularly for younger age groups.
Ensure that games are played in a fun and positive manner.
Enforce rules and manage player behaviour on the field.
Encourage sportsmanship and fair play among all participants.
Communicate with referees, coaches, and players to ensure games run smoothly.

Skills/Experience Required:

Understanding of soccer rules and a passion for youth sports.
Ability to manage groups of children and maintain order.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Referees

Time Commitment: Game time on weekends (varies depending on schedule)

Responsibilities:

Officiate games according to the rules of soccer.
Make fair and impartial decisions on the field.
Ensure the safety of all players during the game.
Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and other referees.
Handle any conflicts or disputes that arise during the game.

Skills/Experience Required:

Thorough knowledge of soccer rules and regulations.
Strong decision-making and communication skills.
Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
Certification or previous experience as a referee is preferred.

Assistant Equipment Manager

Time Commitment: Varies, typically before and after games and practices.

Responsibilities:

Assist the Equipment Manager in maintaining and organising all club equipment.
Ensure all equipment is available and in good condition for practices and games.
Help with the distribution and collection of equipment on game days.
Assist with inventory checks and report any missing or damaged items.
Support the setup and pack-up crews as needed.

Skills/Experience Required:

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage and maintain equipment.
Willingness to assist in various tasks and work as part of a team.

Age Group Coordinator

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary point of contact for coaches, parents, and players within a specific age group.
Ensure that all teams within the age group adhere to club policies and guidelines.
Support coaches by providing resources, guidance, and addressing any concerns or issues that arise.
Communicate regularly with the club’s committee to report on the age group’s progress and any needs or challenges.

Skills/Experience Required:

Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple teams and coordinate with various stakeholders.
Experience in soccer or youth sports management is advantageous.
A positive and supportive attitude towards working with coaches, players, and parents.
This role is crucial for ensuring that each age group runs smoothly and that all participants have a positive experience.

Volunteer Coordinator

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Recruit, organise, and manage volunteers for various club roles.
Maintain a roster of volunteers and ensure all positions are filled for games and events.
Communicate with volunteers to confirm their availability and responsibilities.
Provide training or guidance to new volunteers.
Recognise and appreciate the efforts of volunteers through acknowledgments or events.

Skills/Experience Required:

Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate with a variety of individuals.
Experience in volunteer management is a plus.

Fundraising Coordinator

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week (varies with events)

Responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate fundraising events and initiatives to support the club.
Develop creative fundraising ideas and strategies.
Work with local businesses and sponsors to secure donations or sponsorships.
Promote fundraising events and ensure they are well-organized and successful.
Track funds raised and report on the progress to the committee.

Skills/Experience Required:

Experience in event planning or fundraising is beneficial.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Ability to network and engage with local businesses and community members.

Social Media and Communications Manager

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Manage the club’s social media accounts, including posting updates, photos, and announcements.
Develop and implement a communication strategy to keep members and the community informed.
Create and distribute newsletters, email updates, and other communications.
Work with the club’s website manager to keep the site current.
Promote club events, games, and achievements through various channels.

Skills/Experience Required:

Strong communication and writing skills.
Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Event Coordinator

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week (varies with events)

Responsibilities:

Plan and organise club events such as end-of-season parties, awards nights, and social gatherings.
Coordinate logistics for events, including venue, catering, and entertainment.
Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers for event setup and management.
Promote events within the club and community.
Ensure events run smoothly and are enjoyable for all attendees.

Skills/Experience Required:

Experience in event planning and management.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage budgets and work within financial constraints.

Safety Officer

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week (more during events)plus game time on weekends

Responsibilities:

Ensure that all safety protocols and procedures are followed during practices, games, and events.
Conduct regular safety checks of equipment and facilities.
Provide first aid supplies and be the point of contact in case of injuries or emergencies.
Educate players, coaches, and volunteers on safety practices and injury prevention.
Keep records of any incidents or injuries that occur during club activities.

Skills/Experience Required:

Knowledge of first aid and basic safety procedures.
Attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety.
Certification in first aid or CPR is a plus.
