Congratulations to WVSC MSL1 for their FFA Cup match vs Southern Tablelands United last night! The team ended the match 0-2.

This represents WVSC’s very first FFA Cup entry, and STU play in the Capital League competition.

The WV team created a number of good opportunities and probably deserved more from the match. For a majority of the boys, this was their first competitive match in Senior Football. Overall this was a good experience that the Team and Club can go forward with.

Well done MSL1!

A message from WVSC Club President, Danny Calder:

Our Club Patron, Steve Doszpot, was farewelled yesterday by a packed house of family, friends and associates at St Christopher’s church Forest. It was a pleasure to hear some stories about Steve and how he established a new life here in Australia after escaping an oppressive regime in Hungary as a refugee. Steve’s passion for football was a defining characteristic and beside his role as CEO at Soccer Canberra (now known as Capital Football), he is credited for bringing Johnnie Warren to Canberra and changing Canberra’s attitude towards football. Not mentioned today was that he also played a pivotal role in bringing his very good friend, Mr Football himself, Les Murray, to Canberra as a major drawcard at the Woden Valley Soccer Club Gala Dinner for our 25th anniversary celebration at the Hellenic Club.

I was grateful for the opportunity to thank Steve for the support he has provided WVSC over the years when, at our invitation, he came to our grounds toward the end of this season. He seemed to really enjoy seeing the current generation of kids playing the game he loved so much.

Vale Steve Doszpot.
